Week 13 Question 1

Creativity is explained as “going beyond the current boundaries of technology, knowledge, social norms or beliefs seeing and acting on new relationships, thereby bringing them to life” (p. 183). When I think of creativity, I think is generating some idea that catches eyes. When I was doing a skit for a debate class, each of the group has to come up with a skit for a given topic. However, my group was given the most boring topic with a limitation. Our topic was to create a skit that demonstrates a family that uses good communication skills to revolve problems. We first came up with a really boring and safe skit that basically consist each family members talk about their needs. And then I thought, if our topic is boring we could be creative in the content of the skit itself. Therefore, I came up with story that requires one daughter in the family has a problem with diarrhea and that skit was a huge success with a lot of laughers. Our group was thinking outside the box and used our creativity to turn a boring skit to an interesting one.

  1. There are always ways to spice up something boring. I know being at work it becomes tedious and boring sometimes. But every once in awhile you can use your everyday and make something fun out of it. For instance, the rest of my coworkers dared me to use a British accent with the rest of the customers I helped that day. So I did it. Not only was it fun for me I made the entire branch laugh all day long. It has been something we do with a lot of new people that come through to kind of break them in. I believe there is always an opportunity to add some creativity to a dull situation

  2. Well! That certainly is....creative! Bathroom humor has been funny to humanity for a long time. I think even the prudish and prissy Victorians (secretly) enjoyed dick and fart jokes. I think that it really is creative for you to have used something that could have been so embarrassing for someone in your skit. There's already enough pressure for someone to go up and give a presentation to a class; using potty humor to do so shows a lot of courage on your part. I'm curious, how did the one "daughter" feel about portraying a girl who had a bad case of diarrhea?

  3. Wow sogo, I thought that your post was pretty interesting. I always hate having to do group projects where the topics are particularly boring. It is hard to think outside of the box when try to get a good grade on something. I think when you take the safe route to make sure that you get a good grade you are really killing your creative spirit. I thought that your idea to think outside of the box was really great and shows that groups can take risks and maintain some creativity. It also is good that your classmates supported your ideas and encouraged you to think outside of the box more often.
